Punctuality is the virtue of the boardom

Punctuality is the virtue of the boredom

 The father of the “Theory of Relativity” Albert Einstein, who changed the whole world of Physics through his theory, once called a „Lazy Dog‟ by his Professor Hermann, because he never fulfilled his commitments, which he made to his supervisor. Many great people who achieve something great are mostly the ones who think outside the box. These kinds of people are too much in love with their work and in this way, they forgot about the little commitments, which they made. This shows that punctual people do not necessarily mean that they are good in their work. On the other hand, people who are often late meeting their deadlines are not the ones who are dull or not good at something. It did not mean that one should be always late but rather there must be a balance between the two.

Many artists and writers are late in their commitments, they are not always on time and they missed important meetings because they are too much busy in their work. Take the example of Indian movie star Aamir Khan, who never attended any show, but it did not mean that he is not a good actor. On the other hand, Marrie Currie, who was nominated for the Nobel Prize did not even come to receive her award, because she had no time for it. Those people who are late do not get depressed over small matters, but rather they think about the big picture they see in future. That is why Edward Verral Lucas said;

“I have noticed that the people who are late are often so much jollier than the people who have to wait for them.”

Similarly, John F Kennedy, one of the greatest president in American history said;

“I avoid that bleak first hour of the working day during which my still sluggish senses and body make every chore a penance. I find that in arriving later, the work which I do perform is of much higher quality.”

The important thing is, that one needs to value the things which are important in life. There is nothing wrong to stop and just enjoy the present moment, and forget about the hectic timetable. Commitments are important but breaking them is not the end of the world. Just like everything needs balance, a person needs to find a balance between punctuality and lateness. Life is not about regretting about the past and thinking about the future, but rather to be able to enjoy the present moments. Here is a poem Robert Graves, which explain it beautifully.

In Broken Images by Robert Graves

He is quick, thinking in clear images;

I am slow, thinking in broken images.

He becomes dull, trusting to his clear images;

I become sharp, mistrusting my broken images.

Trusting his images, he assumes their relevance;

Mistrusting my images, I question their relevance.

Assuming their relevance, he assumes the fact;

Questioning their relevance, I question the fact.

When the fact fails him, he questions his senses;

When the fact fails me, I approve my senses.

He continues quick and dull is his clear images;

I continue slow and sharp in my broken images.

He in a new confusion of his understanding;

I in a new understanding of my confusion.
