Literature The Best Solution to Avoid Coronavirus

“Only the very weak-minded refuse to be influenced by literature and poetry.”
Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Angel

The Coronavirus has affected the lives of every single human being living on earth. Some are affected financially, some physically, while some emotionally, no matter what; the coronavirus has changed the life of every single human being living on earth. All the businesses are shut down, all the educational institutions are closed, there are strict restrictions on travel from one place to other, public gatherings are banned because of fear of spreading the virus, even in-home people are instructed to keep distance, in short, the whole life has become a prison for everyone. In this scenario, literature becomes the most important source to avoid this difficult time. It can be in the shape of movies, dramas and songs; or it can be in traditional form of literature, like novels, poetry, short stories readings etc. This shows that it is very difficult for a person to spend time without depending on literature, it can be in one form or in other but the origin is the same and that is literature.

As all the sports events are postponed, take the recent example of T20 Cricket World Cup 2020. However, it is not officially postponed but there are very thin chances that the event will happen this year. This is way even Virat Kohli, world best batsman is also nothing else to do, but has to read books while he is at home and nowhere else to go. Recently, Kohli tweeted that reading a good book these days is always great to spend your time. While not only him it is obvious that as a human being one needs something interesting to spend his free time. In this case, nothing can beat Literature. Literature can give you excitement, pleasure, sorrow, and a reason to live. Every single feeling you name it you can get it through literature. It can be in the form of movies, songs, reading novels, stories, reality shows etc. because now it is also counted as literature.

A person who reads literature lives more than one life, as compared to another person who doesn't. The reason behind it that reading about other people living or watching movies or dramas about others people life, makes you feel that you are also part of the story, it can be fiction or non-fiction, but you feel their feelings through their story. Reading literature also gives you a different perspective on life. It gives you different situation people can find themselves in because it is the true reflection of life. A person, who only knows the one aspect of the reality of life, in which he is living, how he be able to understand other people sorrows and happiness. This is the reason that literature makes you sensitive about other people and makes you more humble.

Recently, I was reading an article which was written by a psychiatrist that how a person can be affected by the recent lockdown, that can lead a person to commit suicide. The famous Indian film actor, Sushant Singh Rajput did the same. Many experts who have experience in psychology are of the view that Sushant Singh suicide may not happen if the lockdowns were not going on. This show at which extreme a person can be affected by a coronavirus, both physically and mentally.

A person who claims that literature has no value in today’s technological world, there is a challenge for them. Then they show us that they can spend their time in these lockdowns, without reading books, watching movies or reality shows, listening to stories and listening to songs.

“That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you're not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.”

F. Scott Fitzgerald
